Prescott, AZ, The Phippen Museum's 33rd Annual Western Art Show and Sale will be held May 26, 27, and 28, 2007 on the historic Courthouse Plaza in mile-high Prescott, Arizona. Hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Sunday and 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday.
Arizona's premier Western Art event will feature over 240 artists in booths surrounding the Courthouse and in the special Miniature Masterpieces tent. "We are extremely pleased to have such a large representation of juried, professional artists participate in our biggest annual fundraising event," commented Kim Villalpando, Phippen Museum Executive Director. "It is inspiring to see such a wealth of talent in one place," Villalpando added. The annually anticipated event features Art of the American West represented in oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, pastels, sculpture and drawing. A full list of artists participating is attached and available on the Phippen web site. In addition to the show and sale, the Phippen Museum plans a number of other events to round out the holiday weekend, including Quick Draw art competitions where professional artists create a work of art in only 45 minutes on the steps of the Historic Courthouse and then auction it off to the crowd. This will also be the 4th year for the Phippen Museum's successful Miniature Masterpieces Show & Sale. In a special tent on the Courthouse Plaza, spectacular drawings, paintings and sculptures by some of the biggest names in Western Art will be available for viewing and purchase. This is a fixed price sale and the artwork will be sold by draw. Intent to Purchase may be placed online, at the Museum or in person at the Miniature Tent. At 1:00 PM on Monday, May 28 these pieces will be sold by draw. A list of artists participating is available on the Phippen Museum's web site.
Quick Draw and Auction - An exciting part of the annual Phippen Museum's Western Art Show and Sale, the Quick Draw events are held on Saturday and Sunday on the Courthouse steps, beginning at 2:00 PM. While the public looks on, 15 to 20 artists create a piece of art starting from an empty canvas in a 45-minute, timed demonstration. The pieces are then auctioned off to the highest bidder, beginning at approximately 3:00 PM.
The Phippen Museum is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit with the mission of perpetuating the unique heritage, mythology and influence of American Western Art. The Museum opened in 1984 and was named after Arizona resident and founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America, George Phippen.
