Front Desk Front Desk Volunteers greet visitors, take admission payments, answer phones, and sell merchandise in the Museum Store. Front desk shifts are three hours (10-1, 1-4). Requirements: Must plan to work at least one shift per month. Must be able to use a phone and handle money. Prior retail or reception experience a plus.
Hospitality Hospitality Volunteers help with our openings and other special events. Some prepare food, or greet guests, tend bar, or help with set-up and clean-up.
Docent Docents give tours of exhibits to groups, teach craft and art workshops, give lectures and assist with educational outreach for the Museum. Phippen Docents meet once a month at the Museum. Requirements: Must be outgoing and comfortable speaking before large groups on art related topics. Knowledge of Western Art and art education is a big plus.
Office Assistance Office Volunteers help with bulk mailing preparation, occasional data entry, and filing.
Facilities and Grounds Facilities and Grounds Volunteers help with general maintenance tasks including: replacing lights, A/C filters, and making simple repairs. They also help during exhibit installations by moving portable walls and pedestals or large works of art. Facilities and Grounds Volunteers meet every Tuesday morning at the Museum. Requirements: Must be able to do reasonably strenuous physical activity (i.e., climb ladders, lift up to 25 lbs, etc.).
Curatorial Curatorial Volunteers assist the Museum Curator with cataloguing, cleaning, and research of the Museum’s permanent art collection as well as temporary exhibits. Requirements: Needs to be computer literate. Prior knowledge of art handling and/or art conservation is a plus.
Phippen Western Art Show Every Memorial Day weekend, the Phippen Museum hosts one of the largest outdoor western art sales in the country on the courthouse square in Prescott. This enormous event takes many volunteers to help with: booth sitting, helping artists set up, traffic control, cashiers, runners, sales, answering questions, hospitality, and many more opportunities. There is truly something for everyone!
