Western Threads explores the work of fiber artists living in the American West or inspired by the American West. Through various nonfunctional, contemporary displays of work, fiber artists from around the country will exhibit the diversity of the art form, from mosaic quilting to contemporary tapestry and basketry as they explore different aspects of the American West. This exhibit honors an art form once thought to be very functional and traditional as a modern-day presentation of creativity and skill.
Running throughout the exhibit are themes of the American West, ranging from realistic interpretations to abstract representations of the people, culture, landscape and history that has made the West what it is today. Western Threads accompanies the American Academy of Women Artists exhibit which is simultaneously showing at the Phippen Museum.
